Democrat California Rep. Nancy Pelosi told a Scripps News reporter that he is a strong contender to be a prisoner at Alcatraz.
Scripps News Congressional Correspondent Nathaniel Reed asked Pelosi about the reopening of the former California prison, which led to her quip in response.
“Based on what you know, how long would it take to refit Alcatraz to be suitable for prisoners?” Reed asked. (RELATED: Environmental Groups Sue To Block ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Detention Center)
“Well it depends on how many prisoners they think they are going to put there.”
“Is it for one, like Elba?” Pelosi remarked, seemingly referencing the island where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled after his abdication.
“Or is it for a couple hundred people, but I don’t think its ever going to happen.”
Pelosi then turned to Reed and asked if he had been to Alcatraz.
“Yes,” he replied.
“So you wouldn’t want to live there, even as a prisoner, right?” she questioned.
Reed’s response could not be heard in the video as the former speaker of the House waited for his reply. (RELATED: ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Tour Guide Describes ‘Taxing’ Experience He Had Showing Off Facility To Democrat Politicians)
“You’d like those cells?” Pelosi asked. While letting out a chuckle, she said, “Well maybe you’d be a good candidate for the way it is now, I don’t know.”
Pelosi criticized President Donald Trump’s plan to reopen Alcatraz prison on MSNBC Thursday, calling it “the most foolish idea this administration has proposed,” according to The Hill.
In a July 1 Truth Social, Trump said “conceptual work” on the prison started six months ago.
“Conceptual work started six months ago, and various prison firms are looking at doing it with us,” he stated.
Trump originally called for the prison to be opened and rebuilt in a post to Truth Social on May 4.
“For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering,”
“When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm,” he added. (RELATED: What’s So Special About Nancy Pelosi’s Stock Trading Activities?)
He announced he is ordering the Bureau of Prisons, along with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to reopen and expand Alcatraz to hold the nation’s most dangerous criminals.
“The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE.”
