Mumford and Sons Makes a Wild Confession About Their Album ‘Wilder Mind’ 10 Years Later originally appeared on Parade.
It’s been a decade since Mumford and Sons released their iconic album Wilder Mind, and they’re doing something special to commemorate. The band took to TikTok to post a video talking about the making of the record, which marked a major stylistic shift for the band from their Grammy-winning sophomore album Babel in 2012.
The band shied away from their previously signature folksy sound of banjos, upright bass, and acoustic instrumentation and moved into a more electric, rock-oriented approach that put guitars, drums, and synthesizers on center stage.
The band members explained on a voiceover of the video, “Making Modern Mind was by far the most enjoyable process … we’ve had in the studio, and I think you can hear it in the record — it’s music that we love making, and that’s the only way it should ever be, that’s all we’ll ever do.”
Then they admitted that they never even intended to release the songs that they wrote for it!
They continued in the voiceover, “The album making process was done without the intention of making an album. We just started writing songs and bring them to the table purely for the sake of doing that.”
Fans were incredulous that it’s been so long since Wilder Mind was released, with comments like, “Sorry but what do you mean TEN years????” and, “Ten years already?!?!?”
Others praised the albums that initially got mixed reactions due to their pivot from the sounds that rocketed them to fame. One person wrote, “The middle child that WASNT forgotten,” while another added, “Flawless from start to finish!” Yet another follower chimed in, “The album that changed my life. love you guys.”

They also had great news for fans of the album They noted in the caption of the video: “In celebration of the 10th anniversary of its release, a limited-edition vinyl pressing of Wilder Mind will be released on 5th september. this blue marble vinyl release uses 100% recycled compound, made of trimmed flash and leftovers which cannot otherwise be reused, with each disc looking different from the last.”
The limited edition vinyl will be available in their official online store only.
