Miley Cyrus’s visual album Something Beautiful is more than just a record—it’s a full-scale cinematic experience. The singer’s ninth studio album was accompanied by a one-night-only theatrical release of its companion film in a fully immersive event. The project first debuted at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, followed by a wider theatrical rollout. And now, it’s coming to Hulu and Disney+.

The film screened in North American theaters for one night only on Thursday, June 12, followed by an international theatrical release on Friday, June 27, according to a press release from Sony Music Vision and Trafalgar Releasing. Tickets went on sale on May 22.
What is Something Beautiful about?
The film features 13 new tracks from Cyrus’s album of the same name, executive produced by Cyrus and Shawn Everett.
In a press statement, Cyrus called the project her “dream come true,” adding: “Fashion, film, and original music coexisting in harmony. My co-creators are all geniuses in their own right: from the masters of sound, Shawn Everett and Alan Meyerson, to one of cinema’s most unique directors, Panos Cosmatos serving as a producer. Each collaborator has used their expertise to make this fantasy a reality.”
Cyrus co-directed the film alongside Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, with cinematography by Benoît Debie (Spring Breakers). The theatrical version was mixed exclusively for cinemas by Alan Meyerson (Dune, The Dark Knight).
When did the album come out?
The album, Something Beautiful, was released on May 30, via Columbia Records. Cyrus drew inspiration from Pink Floyd’s The Wall and the psychedelic horror film Mandy to craft the album’s tone and aesthetic, as she noted in her November 2024 Harper’s Bazaar cover story. “Whether [the songs] are about destruction or heartbreak or death, they’re presented in a way that is beautiful,” she said.
The album’s rollout included a cinematic trailer and teaser visuals that previewed the film’s surreal tone, alongside custom fashion from Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, and archival Thierry Mugler—reflecting how Cyrus is using style as a storytelling device to shape the world of Something Beautiful.

On May 22, Cyrus appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and discussed the project. She clarified that this is a film, not a movie. “A movie has a point,” she said. “Not that this doesn’t quite have a point, but I feel like there’s an A, B, and C, and the whole point of a movie is to get to C. The good news about this one is that there’s not really a synopsis because the music is the story. Every song is storytelling, essentially.”
She continued, “There was no need for characterization because I’m the character. I never want to become something or someone that I’m not.”
