It’s been nearly two decades since Hannah Montana wrapped its four-season run, and Miley Cyrus wants to go big to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.
In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio, the 32-year-old actress and musician said, “I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today. Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this kind of… this me.”
Starring Cyrus in the titular role, the Disney Channel series ran for four seasons between March 2006 and January 2011. It chronicled the life of Cyrus’ fictional character, Miley Stewart, who doubled as both an average teenager and a pop star as she lived the “best of both worlds.”
It also launched Cyrus’ career, catapulting her to superstardom and leading her to make history last year as the youngest person ever to be named a Disney Legend, an honor bestowed on individuals who have significantly influenced the company.
Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus said she was excited to “celebrate” the character that launched her career.
“It’s so crazy to think, too, that I started as a character that I thought was going to be impossible to shed,” she said. “And now that’s something that when I walk into a space, it’s looked at as this sense of nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood, but I’ve now been as kind of integrated into everyone’s life as the character itself. So that’s exciting to get to celebrate that.”

In 2024, while accepting her award as a Disney Legend, Cyrus spoke to the character and the show, saying, “A little bit of everything has changed, … but at the same time, nothing has changed at all, I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana.”
Cyrus added, “In so many ways, this award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.’ “
Cyrus has said in earlier interviews that she’s “open” to resurrecting the character.
“You know what honestly, I try to put that wig on all the time,” Cyrus said after she was asked about a potential reboot to the popular Disney Channel series in a 2020 interview. “She’s just in storage collecting dust and I’m ready to whip her out … The opportunity will present itself.”
She continued, “I definitely would like to resurrect her at some point. She needs a big makeover because she’s kinda stuck in 2008, so we’ll need to go shopping with Miss Montana.”
