Miley Cyrus has released a statement regarding her relationship with her parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus, following feud rumors.
According to Us Weekly, Miley took to her Instagram Stories to address reports that her mother unfollowed her Instagram account. Miley stated that her mother, whom she describes as her “best friend,” did not intend to unfollow her on the social media platform.
“I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us. She’s my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental and uninteresting,” stated Miley on May 10.
She also noted that she has had a complicated dynamic with her father throughout the years. She suggested, however, that she would like to mend her relationship with Billy Ray.
“My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my 30s, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family,” continued Miley.
People magazine reported that some fans voiced their concern that Tish may have unfollowed Miley’s Instagram account shortly after Billy Ray announced that he was going to reunite with the “Flowers” singer.
“Can’t wait to see this young lady. Crazy how time flies,” read the caption of Billy Ray’s May 7 Instagram video that showed Miley sitting before a piano.
According to People magazine, Tish, who divorced Billy Ray in 2022, said she was not sure how she unfollowed her daughter in an Instagram comment.
“have no idea how that happened but it’s fixed now! 💖,” commented Tish.
The TODAY show reported that Miley discussed her relationship with her parents in a 2024 episode of the Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.
“Honestly my mom is my hero. And my father, I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me, he’s almost given me this map. And there’s a map of what to do, and what not to do. And he’s guided me on both,” said Miley during the interview.
