Miley Cyrus revealed that she suffered from a ruptured ovarian cyst.
During her appearance on the May 21 episode of The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1, the 32-year-old singer said the medical emergency took place when hosting her Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party alongside godmother Dolly Parton.
“I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with [Lorne Michaels] when I was doing my New Year’s show,” she said. “I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn’t know exactly what was going on so we did it.”
“It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway,” she added. “But it was really really hard on me.”

Ovarian cysts are common; the Mayo Clinic states that “many women have ovarian cysts at some time,” and most “present little or no discomfort and are harmless.”
However, large or ruptured cysts “can cause serious symptoms,” including severe pelvic pain and bleeding, fullness or heaviness in the abdomen and bloating. In rare cases, a ruptured ovarian cyst may require surgery.
Cyrus is one of many celebrities who have revealed their painful experiences with ovarian cysts. Other stars include Hailey Bieber, Marsai Martin, Kate Beckinsale, Hilary Swank, Lena Dunham, Olivia Culpo and more.
