Mavis Beaumont is embarking on one last adventure, bitch!

Netflix announced at its 2025 upfront presentation on Wednesday that Michelle Buteau’s heartfelt comedy-drama has been renewed for a third and final season. In an accompanying clip, Buteau could be seen receiving the good news via an unexpected phone call from the third season itself.

“Excuse me? Hi! Yeah, I’m Michelle, but you knew that,” she said. “What? Third and final season? We’re getting picked up for season 3? Woo! Oh my God, you guys! We’re getting picked up for season 3!”

The actress, writer, and series co-creator was then presented with a large pink three balloon by someone offscreen, which she held close to her chest.

“How did you have this on hand? How did you know?” Buteau teased. “It’s the holy trinity! Three! Three of me. It’s so exciting.”

Inspired by her 2020 memoir of the same name, Survival of the Thickest follows up-and-coming Black stylist Mavis Beaumont (Buteau) as she reinvents her life from the ground up following a brutal breakup. With her chosen family at her side, Mavis explores the power of self-love and body positivity as she dips her toes back in the dating pool and works tirelessly to create her own fashion brand.

In addition to Buteau, the series also stars Tone Bell, Tasha Smith, Marouane Zotti, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Peppermint.

Entertainment Weekly previously praised Survival of the Thickest’s “funnier than ever” second season in a March entry for the Must List.

“Standout episodes see the besties trip out with Anderson .Paak at Afropunk and shine a light on trans joy with Peppermint,” EW News Director Jillian Sederholm wrote. “The comedy is pro-Black, pro-fat, pro-queer, pro-sex, and pro-bad boss bitch, and we love it for that!”

That inclusivity is reflected behind the camera, too. The show’s second season was directed entirely by women of color and also consisted of 70 percent female department heads and a 50 percent female crew.

The first two seasons of Survival of the Thickest are streaming now on Netflix.
