Knots Landing stars Joan Van Ark, Michele Lee and Donna Mills are opening up about plastic surgery — and why the key to a “subtle” result is getting work done at an earlier age.

On the April 21 episode of their new Knots Landing podcast We’re Knot Done Yet, the former costars said they had been getting many fan questions about plastic surgery and what procedures they’ve had done.

“I have had plastic surgery, so let’s go on with what I feel about it,” Lee, 82, said. “What I would say to anyone who’s thinking of it, they should do it early. That’s one. I would not wait till you’re over 60 because when you do it early, it’s more subtle, a little at a time, not noticeable as you’re getting older, more natural looking.”

Echoed Mills, 84: “Yeah, I would agree with that. Think there’s a certain point where it’s really helpful, probably in your 40s. Then it lasts you longer. It keeps you younger-looking longer. Don’t do it too much. If you do it too much, it’s ugly and horrible.”

Lee — who played Karen MacKenzie on the show — added that she had her “eyes done” when she was in her 40s, saying, “Hardly anyone could would notice it. In fact, I was sitting next to the president of CBS at a dinner party six days after my surgery.”

When Mills asked if she was “in bandages,” Lee replied: “No, I was gorgeous.”

When she went to the set of Knots Landing days later, one of the female makeup artists helped her cover her bruises, she shared.

“What she said, because I was a little black and blue, and what she said to me was, ‘Don’t worry, I’m gonna work it out. I’m gonna blend it,’ ” Lee added.

Mills — who joined the show in season 2 as Abby Cunningham, the series’ biggest pot-stirrer — also opened up about past procedures.

“Back when I was in my 40s, on Knots Landing, yes, I did a lift,” she said. “And it was subtle, but it lasted, you know. And I haven’t done anything since. Nothing since then.”

‘But, you know, that’s why I say I think it’s better to do it then, and then, you know, don’t think about doing it anymore when you’re older. Also, skin isn’t as pliable when you’re older, so you can get kind of pulled looking,” Mills added.

In an earlier episode of the podcast, the former costars spoke about how Lee and Mills got off to a rocky start while on set.

“I don’t know if you remember, but the first few months I was on the show, we had a little dust-up. Do you remember?” Mills asked Lee.

Lee said she did remember, adding, “I have a director’s brain and I’m controlling. Sometimes I can go over a line, but I think I know what I want and sometimes I just say it too loud.”

Lee remembered that she and Mills were filming with Ted Shackelford. “All of a sudden — I had no idea what I did wrong, of course I never do — but you and Ted gave me a look and you walked off the set,” she said. “I thought, ‘Holy s—, what just happened?’ ”

Mills remembered telling her, “Don’t push me around. If you want something, tell me, but don’t push me around. You can’t do that to me.”

“I think it got over a hump for us. It made us better friends because we had confronted that and said it and went on,” Mills said, adding later: “We got to understand each other. We got to like each other. It’s not like it started out that way because it really didn’t.”
