  • Michael Jordan will be a commentator on NBC’s NBA broadcast this fall

  • The network said they’re “thrilled to welcome” him to the team

  • Jordan has never served as a commentator

Michael Jordan is adding “commentator” to his already impressive resume.

As NBC prepares to resume its NBA coverage in the fall at the start of the next season, Jordan, 62, will contribute to the network’s broadcast commentary, NBC said on Monday, May 12.

The announcement was made at the NBCU Upfront presentation, where composer John Tesh performed his iconic jingle “Roundball Rock” — originally composed in 1990 for NBC’s NBA coverage — before the announcement about Jordan was made via video.

NBC shared a video teaser announcing Jordan’s participation on Monday that included clips of some of the former NBA star’s legendary career, which has largely been considered the greatest of all time.

“A legendary addition to our team,” NBC wrote in the post on X alongside the video. “We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the NBA on NBC and Peacock.”

Jordan, who won six NBA championships in his playing career, has not yet worked as a commentator in basketball.

In August 2023, Jordan ended his tenure as a majority owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and transitioned into a minority role with the team. He’s also spent time investing in his 23XI Racing team, which is currently in a legal dispute with NASCAR.

Meanwhile, the former NBA star saw some luck when his Chicago mansion sold for $9.5 million after 12 years on and off the market. The seven-acre estate includes a basketball gymnasium, circular infinity pool, putting green, tennis court and cigar room.

Jordan’s work for NBC will also mark his return to TV for the first time since his Emmy award-winning docuseries The Last Dance aired in 2020.
