Michael J. Fox made a rare, non-charity-related public appearance this week, and fans are sending the “legend” all their love after he was spotted being pushed through Manhattan using a wheelchair.
As seen in a video uploaded to Instagram by videojournalist Mickey Blank on Friday, May 2, the veteran actor, 63, was escorted to the boxing match between Ryan Garcia, who is fresh off of a one-year suspension for a failed drug test, and former junior welterweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero during the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves event in New York’s Times Square earlier that day.
He wore a tan button-up over a white tee with a pair of jeans and a grey pair of sneakers, sitting in a black wheelchair with one leg crossed over the other.
As Blank told him, “Enjoy the fight!” as his team rushed him past, he threw two fingers back in acknowledgment and nodded hello.
“This must be the first time ever you can actually hear my voice in one of these celebrities videos! I got emotional seeing Michael J. Fox arriving to the stage! ❤️,” Blank wrote alongside the clip.
Fans felt the same way, with one gushing, “What a moment!”
“We love Michael J Fox! A true star 🌟,” someone else declared, with another calling him “A true legend.”
Some were concerned by his appearance using the mobility aid, with one commenter replying, “so sad to see him like that,” but many others pointed out that “Hes looking pretty good all things considered.”
“He looks good 👍,” another agreed.
Fox, of course, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease since he was 29 years old. He’s been spotted sitting in red carpet photos lately, but hasn’t slowed down as far as his work toward finding a cure for the neurological disorder goes. This isn’t the first time he’s been spotted using a wheelchair to help get around, either, though he previously said in his memoir that the lack of control he has when using one makes for a “frustrating and isolating experience.”
