Michael Bublé Talks How Adam David Overcame the Odds To Win ‘The Voice’ Season 27 (Exclusive)

Adam David overcame a lot to become the winner of Season 27 of The Voice. Statistically, the odds were against him. There have only been two other one-chairs turns who have won: Jake Hoot and Chris Blue. But Chris almost doesn’t count in that sense because he was the last artist added that season and only Alicia Keys had a spot on her team, so it wasn’t as if anyone else could have turned for him. But Kelly Clarkson turned for Jake, and she was proven right. As was Michael Bublé tonight with Adam.

Adam is also only the second person to receive the “Instant Save” to go on to win the competition. The first was Bryce Leatherwood, who, funnily enough, returned to the finale to perform his new single “God Made.”

“I am going to tell you right now, I have nothing to do with it,” the winning coach told Parade, trying to downplay his role in Adam’s win. “Zero. We’re friends. I’m not his coach; I’m not his teacher. He’s a killer musician. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He has all the talent and ambition in the world. I think more than anything, he needed a partner, a friend to help sometimes lift him up when he was having doubts.”

Those doubts earlier also led Adam to struggle with addiction, but he sought help and ultimately found recovery. Now five years clean, he credits music as a steady anchor in his life, helping him process emotions and maintain stability. And it was his years of dedication to music that attracted Michael when he heard Adam’s voice.

“No joke, I remember distinctly there being about 15 or 10 seconds left on the clock as Adam’s Blind Audition song [‘Baby I Love Your Way’] was winding down and I was saying to the other coaches, ‘Please don’t turn, don’t turn.’ I didn’t want him to get stolen. Then, when it happened, the second I got him, I ran backstage and I said, ‘I just got my guy on my team.’”

And it was obvious all season watching Michael’s interactions with Adam that he was a huge fan of the 34-year-old musician from Fort Lauderdale, FL. But rather than take credit for Adam’s success, Michael continues to share the credit, but with voters.

“America has great taste,” Michael said.  “They really do. America is who gave us this music. They’re the ones who culturally gave us the greatest gifts in not only music but cinema and art. And the fact that they can recognize what I heard in that turn just gives me deeper faith in them and how good they are, how smart they are, how much integrity came with every one of those votes. The thing that I am tripping out about more than anything is knowing how important those people feel about their vote. It’s not thrown away. It gives you confidence in your own taste.”

Michael is the only judge from Season 27 who will be returning for Season 28. He is looking forward to working with a new group of coaches, who will also include Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg and Niall Horan.

“I’m going to show up and revel in being friends with these people and get some great artists again,” Michael said, wrapping up.

The Voice Season 28 will return to NBC in Fall 2025.
