(The Center Square) – A second foreign national has been arrested after threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump.

The first was a Canadian national five years ago; the second was a Mexican national recently arrested.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Wednesday that a Mexican national was arrested for threatening to assassinate the president, posting his photo and a letter he allegedly wrote without disclosing his name.

According to Homeland Security, the hand-written letter in English states, “We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans- we have done more for this country than you white people- you have been deporting my family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get [sic] what he has coming to him. I will self deport myself back to Mexico but not before I use my 30 yard 6 to shoot your precious president in his head- I will see him at one of his big rallys [sic].”

“Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars,” Noem said.

This is the second illegal foreign national arrested for attempting to assassinate the president.

In August 2023, a dual citizen of Canada and France, Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier, 55 at the time, was sentenced to 21 years in prison after attempting to poison Trump and Texas officials, The Center Square reported.

She was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents working at the Peace Bridge Border Crossing in Buffalo, New York, after she sent threatening letters containing homemade ricin (a lethal toxin), in September 2020 to Trump at the White House. She also sent ricin to eight Texas State law enforcement officials in 2019, according to two consolidated federal cases filed against her in which she pleaded guilty.

The threats from the northern and southwest borders continue after the greatest number of Canadian and Mexican illegal border crossers were reported under the Biden administration, The Center Square reported. The greatest number of known or suspected terrorists have been consistently apprehended by U.S. officials at the U.S.-Canada border, The Center Square has reported for several years. The greatest number were reported under the Biden administration, The Center Square exclusively reported.

Under the Biden and Trudeau administrations, the greatest number of Canadian illegal border crossers were reported in fiscal 2022 of 47,126, according to federal data. The majority, 40,600, were reported at the northern border; the next greatest number, 6,413, nationwide, followed by 113 at the southwest border, according to the data.

In fiscal 2023, the numbers were slightly less, totaling 44,700 nationwide, with the majority reported at the northern border.

Under the Biden and Obrador administrations, the greatest number of Mexican nationals, nearly 3 million, illegally entered or attempted illegal entry, The Center Square reported.

The majority, 2,761,454, were apprehended or encountered at the southwest border, followed by 42,974 nationwide and 22,029 at the northern border, according to federal data as of last August.

Mexican illegal border crossers totaled more than the individual populations of 15 U.S. states, The Center Square first reported. Combined, they’d be the 36th largest U.S. state behind Mississippi’s estimated 2.9 million population and more than New Mexico’s 2.1 million. They’d be the third most populous city in America, behind New York City and Los Angeles, more than Chicago’s 2.6 million and Houston’s 2.3 million.

The data excludes gotaways, those who illegally entered and evaded capture.

In January, Trump declared an invasion and national emergency at the southwest border. A few weeks later, he declared an emergency at the northern border. He’s since taken additional measures, including renegotiating tariff agreements with both countries and getting their new leaders to agree to stronger border security measures.
