Megyn Kelly Guest Describes What ‘Deranged’ Mindset Led Progressives To Hand NYC To Socialist Nominee

“Ruthless” podcast co-host Comfortably Smug told SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly on Thursday that the “deranged” mindset of “white guilt” led progressives in New York City to choose socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani as the Democratic mayoral nominee.

After NYC’s polls closed Tuesday, Mamdani secured the nomination following former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s concession before the race was officially called. While discussing Mamdani’s win on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Comfortably Smug said Mamdani won over the city’s higher-income class “in droves.”

“If you look at the breakdown of where he won, Mamdani won, in New York City, upper middle class and wealthy people came out in droves to vote for him,” Comfortably Smug said. “So this deranged kind of white guilt, which just gripped the progressive movement of thinking that ‘Well, white people are evil. Capitalism is evil, even though I have a place in the Upper East Side, capitalism is a horrible system. Doesn’t work for people even though, you know, from Park Ave[nue] I go shopping on Madison every day. It’s a wonderful system for me.’”

According to The New York Times’ projections, Mamdani beat Cuomo by an estimated 10 points among “middle income” voters and roughly 13 points among “higher income” voters, while Cuomo led “lower income” voters by an estimated 13 points. NYT data shows Mamdani won white voters by roughly five points, Hispanic voters by about six points and Asian voters by roughly 15 points. In comparison, Cuomo held strong support from black voters, beating Mamdani by around 18 points.

“But I think we need a communist. They’re gonna get what they deserve. For so many folks — yourself included — who no longer live in New York, don’t have a place in there, you see what they’ve done. It just keeps getting worse and worse and worse,” Comfortably Smug told Kelly.

“It really whittled down the old talent pool of candidates, right?” fellow “Ruthless” co-host Josh Holmes asked. “We were basically down to a choice between a guy who killed your grandmother and a socialist psychopath or the current guy, which is like no bucket of fruit either.”

Since securing the mayoral nomination, Mamdani’s policies have come under the spotlight as many in the city have already voiced concerns about the direction the socialist Democrat could take. In addition to pushing to raise NYC’s minimum wage to $30, Mamdani is seeking to increase corporate and high-earner taxes to generate an estimated $10 billion to fund a range of free amenities.

Mamdani has also been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration — despite it being one of voters’ top concerns ahead of the 2024 election. If elected, Mamdani plans to “Trump-proof” the city by ending cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and investing over $160 million in immigration legal funding.
