Meet the Real-Life Loves of the “St. Denis Medical” Cast (Including the Couple Who Have Been Married for Nearly 30 Years!)

Laughter is the best medicine on St. Denis Medical.

The mockumentary follows “the employees of an underfunded and understaffed hospital in Oregon,” per its synopsis. Since the show debuted its first season in November 2024, it has shown characters juggling their desire to do their best at work while also trying “not [to] lose their own sanity.”

Actress Wendi McLendon-Covey stars as Joyce, the executive director of the hospital. Meanwhile, Josh Lawson, David Alan Grier, Kaliko Kauahi and Allison Tolman round out the ensemble as fellow healthcare workers dealing with patient drama.

While the NBC comedy features the hilarious antics of the hospital staff in conjunction with personal developments, the actors appear to have an easier time off-screen, including in the romance department.

Wendi McLendon-Covey and Greg Covey

Wendi plays Joyce, the executive director of St. Denis Medical, a fundraising fiend who envisions turning the hospital into a state-of-the-art “international medical destination.”

Known for her roles on Reno 911! and The Goldbergs, Wendi has been married to her husband, Greg Covey, for 28 years. The two met in college, when they both took “the dumbest class that you could take,” as she told Seth Meyers in November 2024.

“It was a requirement. It was called interpersonal communication. We were like the bad kids in this class,” she said on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “First of all, when he walked in, he’s 6’7″. It’s not like you don’t notice him.”

“The minute he walked in … I literally thought the word yes, like, you’re mine,” she recalled.

In August 2024, Wendi celebrated their anniversary with a sweet Instagram post, sharing an image of her and Greg.

“Happy 28th anniversary to Superhusband Greg Covey!” she wrote in the caption. “Life is very good because I have this extraordinary human being to spend my life with!”

Allison Tolman

Allison Tolman portrays Alex, the newly promoted nurse supervisor at the hospital.

According to her Instagram bio, Allison is a “Childless Cat Lady” and a “Rich Man,” which she confirmed to Salon was a Cher reference.

“I don’t need to get married and I don’t need to have someone take care of me. I take care of myself,” she told the outlet in December 2024.

In a November 2024 New York Times profile, it was revealed that on her left ring finger, Allison “wears two thin gold bands, one engraved with the name of her first cat, Annie, the other with her current cat, Bud.”

“I just think I’ll always have cats. Cats have their own lives, their own things going on,” she said.

Josh Lawson

Josh Lawson plays trauma surgeon Dr. Bruce. It is unclear if he is single, but previously dated actress Rachael Taylor.

The Australian actor got his start on the 1997 children’s show, The Wayne Manifesto.

Prior to St. Denis Medical, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film for The Eleven O’Clock, which he wrote and starred in.

Josh was also known for his roles in Superstore, House of Lies, Bombshell and 2021’s Mortal Kombat.

Kahyun Kim and Ty Molbak

Kahyun Kim portrays Serena, a nurse, who has been called the “ER Beyoncé” of St. Denis Medical.

In real life, Kahyun has been dating fellow actor Ty Molbak since 2021. The pair costarred in the movie Minsky the following year.

In August 2024, Ty shared a carousel of images on Instagram of Kahyun, celebrating their anniversary together.

Mekki Leeper and Dessie Jackson

Mekki Leeper plays Matt, a new nurse at the hospital. Before St. Denis Medical, Mekki was known for his roles on The Sex Lives of College Girls and Jury Duty.

Mekki is dating stop motion animator and director Dessie Jackson. Their Instagram accounts are usually filled with their work, but they occasionally post about each other.

In September 2020, Dessie shared images of Mekki, wishing him a happy birthday. “U make everyday better … can’t imagine doing this without you,” she wrote.

Dave Theune portrays Keith, an orderly at St. Denis Medical.
