Off-screen, much of the cast has real-life loves of their own
Freakier Friday has arrived — and Anna is heading down the aisle!
The new Disney film, which was released in theaters on Aug. 8, brings Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis back together for a sequel to their beloved 2003 film. This time, Lohan’s character Anna is a single mom, and Curtis’ Tess is now a grandmother — but just because they are grown, doesn’t mean there isn’t chaos. Instead of a mother-daughter body swap, the new film features a four-way switch that also involves Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and her soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons).
Although Lohan’s character Anna is preparing to head down the aisle with a British restaurateur named Eric (Manny Jacinto), off-screen, she is married to her husband, Bader Shammas. Meanwhile, her costar Curtis has been married to her husband Christopher Guest — “the funniest dude on the planet” — for over four decades.
In addition to their romantic loves, Lohan and Curtis have both been open about the deep friendship they’ve shared since first filming Freaky Friday more than two decades ago.
“We connected, and we really stayed connected. And that is special and rare for me,” Curtis told PEOPLE in July 2025. The Parent Trap actress added that Curtis is someone who makes her “feel very safe.”
Here’s everything to know about the real-life loves of the Freakier Friday cast.

In Freakier Friday, Lohan’s character Anna has found love with her fiancé Eric. But off-screen, she tied the knot with her husband, Shammas, in 2022.
The actress and the financier announced their engagement on Instagram in November 2021. In July 2022, PEOPLE confirmed they were married after The Parent Trap actress referred to Shammas as her “husband” in an Instagram post.
The following July, the couple became parents when they welcomed their first child, son Luai.
More recently, Lohan described Shammas on Instagram as the “love of my life.”
“Every day by your side is a blessing and I’m so lucky to walk through life with you,” she continued.

Curtis stars in Freakier Friday as Anna’s mom, Tess. Off-screen, Curtis is married to The Princess Bride actor Christopher Guest.
Their love story began in the ’80s when Curtis spotted Guest in a magazine and practically manifested their relationship, as she explained in a personal essay for PEOPLE in October 2022.
“I was with the writer of the original Halloween when I saw my husband of 37 years for the first time,” she said. “Debra Hill and I were on my couch in West Hollywood in 1984. I opened up an issue of Rolling Stone, saw Christopher Guest in a Spinal Tap story and said, ‘I’m gonna marry that guy.’ (I did, six months later).”
The pair tied the knot on Dec. 18, 1984, and went on to welcome two children: daughters Annie and Ruby.

Mark Harmon portrays Ryan, Tess’ husband and Anna and Harry’s stepfather, in Freakier Friday, and he has his own family off-screen.
He tied the knot with Mork & Mindy actress Pam Dawber in 1987, and the pair went on to welcome two children: sons Sean and Ty.
In February 2019, he told PEOPLE that he is “proud to be married.”
“I’m proud of who I’m married to,” Harmon said. “I’m just so proud of her.”

In Freakier Friday, Jacinto plays Anna’s love interest, Eric. But in real life, he is married to Warrior actress Dianne Doan.
After they got engaged, Jacinto shared during a panel for Vulture Festival 2019 that it was his character on NBC’s The Good Place, Jason Mendoza, that inspired him to pop the question.
“I was toying when to pop the question for a long time,” he said, per Vulture. “I looked at the Janet/Jason relationship, and there’s a sentence that Jason says to Chidi about relationships and it hit me pretty hard. I thought it was a sign that I needed to do it, and a week later I popped the question.”
The couple stepped out together for the Freakier Friday world premiere in July 2025. After the event, Doan shared photos on Instagram, writing, “Proud is an understatement🥹.”

Chad Michael Murray returns to Freakier Friday as Jake, Anna’s first love. But in real life, he’s happily married to his wife, Sarah Roemer.
The couple met in 2013 on the set of Chosen. Although they said “I do” in September 2014, fans didn’t learn they were married until January 2015, when they announced they had wed and were expecting their first child together. Since then, Murray and Roemer have welcomed three children together.
In honor of their 10-year anniversary in September 2024, Roemer shared a heartfelt tribute to Murray on Instagram, writing, “It’s been more than I could have ever dreamed of.”
“I love our family with my whole heart and soul,” she captioned the post. “Thank you for the most beautiful 10 years together. You are an incredible husband, father, best friend and so so so much more.”
Roemer added, “The best decade by far. I only wish I could slow down time. 🫶🏻.”

Stephen Tobolowsky, who portrays Anna’s high school teacher Mr. Bates in Freakier Friday, has been married to fellow performer Ann Hearn since 1988.
The couple have collaborated professionally on several occasions. During a November 2019 conversation with each other for Backstage Magazine, Tobolowsky recalled the first time he saw Hearn onstage, when she was in a play in Los Angeles and she was “terrific” — which led to a collaboration down the line.
“Later I was directing The Debutante Ball at South Coast, and I said, ‘Who do you have auditioning?’ and they said, ‘Well, we have Holly Hunter, Amanda Plummer, and that girl Ann Hearn who you saw in that Theatre 40 play,’ ” he recalled. “At that time, I really thought you were this meek, timid little actress, and I wasn’t too sure how to direct you-until, in front of an audience, you totally became the spine of the play.”
Together, they share two children.

During a special screening of the film in July 2025, Hammons told PEOPLE that she and Butters, whom she called one of her “best friends,” bonded “naturally.”
“I mean we pretty much laughed every single day,” she said. “I think it’s really awesome that we have a relationship on set and off set and that no matter what, there’s like really no jealousy involved, no envy.”
Hammons continued, “We’re just so supportive of one another and I think that’s really important when it comes to relationships on set.”
