There was “a little bit of Mark” in the food, Ripa joked.
When Mark Consuelos tells you that he made a finger-licking-good meal, it might mean your tongue will actually make contact with a portion of his finger that he accidentally grated off — like he did while preparing a dish recently on the Live With Kelly & Mark set.
During a Friday morning interview with Thunderbolts* actress Florence Pugh, the talk show host reflected on cooking up a big surprise as he and spouse Kelly Ripa made food in the Live kitchen earlier this week.
After Pugh said, “The only way I process my days is cooking and eating,” Ripa asked the actress if she’s had “any mishaps” in the kitchen recently.
“Yes, I’m going to have to get it out now,” Pugh said, extending her arm to show off a scar. “I was cooking last year — that’s actually now a year old. I was so excited about the pasta that I was making that the boiling pan actually singed my skin. I was like, ‘If I scream, I’m going to ruin the moment and ruin the pasta,’ so I fully accepted the boiling pan on my skin like a psychopath. Like a crazy person.”
Ripa then revealed that Consuelos also “had a horrible incident zesting a lemon the other day in the kitchen here” on the talk show’s set.
At the same time, the cohosting couple exclaimed that there’s “a little bit of Mark” lingering in the finished product.

The lemon zest debacle wasn’t Consuelos’ first cooking catastrophes on Live this year, as he previously cut himself with a knife on air during another food segment in March.
“I think I got a piece of nail in there,” Consuelos joked as Ripa handed him a towel, which he held over his left hand.

Consuelos isn’t the only morning show icon with grisly kitchen tales. The View cohost Joy Behar interrupted a cozy fall bit last November to remind her fellow panelists that she once sliced open her hand so badly that she had to go to the hospital.
