Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) took aim Wednesday at one of the most vulnerable House Republicans as he and several of his blue-state colleagues threaten to tank President Trump’s signature policy bill.

In a Wednesday post on social platform X, Greene blasted Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) for pushing House Republican leadership for a higher state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap in the chamber’s “one big, beautiful bill.”

The tax portion of the measure, which passed a House committee Wednesday after a marathon markup, includes a $30,000 limit on the SALT deduction. Lawler and several of his House GOP colleagues, who hail from higher-income suburban districts, say that level is not enough to account for the steep local taxes their constituents face.

Lawler and four other SALT Caucus Republicans are holding out for a higher cap in negotiations with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who has held out optimism for a deal.

But Greene warned her colleagues in a Wednesday post on X not to listen to Lawler, who she said “usually isn’t the guy in the conference with the best ideas.”

“If a $30,000 State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction isn’t good enough for those making under $400,000 then you need to either vote Republican in NY or you need to move!” Greene said.

“The rest of America doesn’t want to and shouldn’t have to make up the difference!!!!! And Mike Lawler has a toss up seat,” she wrote.

Lawler is one of several House Republicans facing a difficult path to reelection in the 2026 midterm elections. While Lawler is regarded as a young politician on the rise within the New York GOP, his district — which covers much of New York City’s northern suburbs — could swing heavily against the Republican Party amid backlash to Trump.

Lawler quickly hit back at Greene, warning her intraparty attacks could cost the GOP its narrow majority.

“Shockingly the ‘Jewish Space Laser’ lady once again doesn’t have a clue what she is talking about,” Lawler said.

“By the way, the reason you enjoy a gavel is because Republicans like me have won our seats. Good luck being in the Majority if we don’t.”
