Mariah Carey brought a fashion fantasy to life at the 2025 BET Awards.
On June 9, the singer, 56, made a dramatic entrance during the awards show after skipping the red carpet.
She took disco glam for a spin onstage during her performance of the leading single off her upcoming 16th studio album, “Type Dangerous,” before delighting fans with “It’s Like That.”
Carey’s look consisted of a metallic gold minidress dress and matching heels but she mixed metals with her eye-catching jewelry (a.k.a. bedazzled hoops and layers of light-catching bracelets). For glam, the pop star transformed her curls into a sleek straight hairstyle and kept her glam ’90s-coded.

Carey is no stranger to the awards show having attended multiple times in the past, however the last time she graced the BET Awards stage was in 2022 when she performed with Latto. This year, she’s being honored with the BET Ultimate Icon Award alongside Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin and Snoop Dogg.
Her last red carpet was at the Recording Academy Honors’ Black Music Collective event in February 2024. Although Carey showed up for the iHeartRadio Music Awards in March, she skipped the carpet and instead let her mermaid gown shine onstage when she accepted her Icon Award.
Carey has been ushering new beginnings both personally and professionally.
The superstar celebrated her 56 birthday on March 27 in ultra-glam fit. In a TikTok video set to her 2005 song “It’s Like That,” the mom of two showed off her curves in a sheer sequin dress coated in sequins.
