Maria Grazia Chiuri is stepping down at Dior, where the designer has been at the helm of the French fashion house for almost a decade.
Today, the maison announced that Grazia Chiuri has decided to leave her post as creative director, where she oversaw women’s ready-to-wear, haute couture and accessories.
The news comes just two days after Dior’s 2026 cruise show in Rome; a rather poignant send off for Grazia Chiuri, marking the first time that the designer had held a show in her hometown during her tenure at the fashion house.
Grazia Chiuri joined Dior in 2016 as the first female creative director in the house’s history, succeeding from the brand’s previous creative director Raf Simons. Prior to joining Dior, she spent 17 years at Valentino, including eight years heading up the design team in partnership with co-collaborator Pierpaolo Piccioli. After her departure, Piccioli continued as sole creative director until he stepped down in 2024.
In a statement released today, Grazia Chiuri said; “After nine years, I am leaving Dior, delighted to have been given this extraordinary opportunity. I would like to thank Monsieur Arnault for placing his trust in me and Delphine for her support. I am particularly grateful for the work accomplished by my teams and the Ateliers. Their talent and expertise allowed me to realise my vision of committed women’s fashion, in close dialogue with several generations of female artists. Together, we have written an impactful chapter of which I am immensely proud.”
During her time at Dior, Grazia Chiuri became known for her classic, elegant approach to style, as well as her slogan T-shirts bearing feminist mantras, and successfully reviving popular house icons such as the Dior Saddle. In 2019 she was awarded the Légion d’honneur, France’s highest honour.
Grazia Chiuri’s departure from Dior coincides with Kim Jones stepping down as creative director of menswear at the luxury house, which was announced in January this year. Her successor has not yet been confirmed.
