Police are investigating vandalism on the July 4 holiday at the Manassas Republican Party Headquarters.
Zachary Murphy, a Manassas City Republican Committee member, discovered the Independence Day incident early Saturday morning, Potomac Local News reported Monday. The word “Fash” had been spray-painted in white capital letters onto the building’s window, according to Potomac Local News. The doorhandle and lock were also sprayed. Murphy said he found what he believed to be urine splattered on the window.
A vandal or group of vandals stole an American flag, which Murphy had hung with other patriotic decor Independence Day morning.
“It looks like they were trying to write ‘fascist,’ but they weren’t very good at spelling or spacing,” Murphy said of the criminal’s spray-paint.
Manassas police on the scene said that a bystander reported seeing a suspicious individual in the area. There were no surveillance cameras on the premises to capture the crime on video. (RELATED: ‘In A Matter Of Seconds’: Chicago Sees 18 People Shot, 4 Killed In Single Drive-By Shooting)
The Republican Party (GOP) of Virginia’s X account responded to the injustice, calling on the state’s Democrats to condemn the “political intimidation.” They also pointed out that the state party headquarters in Richmond had been vandalized in June in a similar fashion. A picture provided of the incident showed the words, “F*ck Republcian,” in black spray-paint. The Virginia GOP state headquarters has been vandalized several times in recent years, according to the Washington Post.
Republican Virginia State Delegate Ian Lovejoy, whose district encompasses parts of Manassas City, said in an X post of the July 4 vandalism that “this is the all too predictable outcome of the incendiary tone so many on the left have adopted of late.”
Congressional Democrats are noticing an uptick in anger among their constituents, according to Axios. Democratic Illinois Rep. Brad Schneider said that “we’ve got people who are desperately wanting us to do something … no matter what we say, they want [more].” Other Democrat politicians reportedly said of their voters that “the expectations aren’t just unreal. They’re dangerous,” and that supporters want “violence … to fight to protect our democracy.” (RELATED: Wealthy White Liberals Reportedly Urge Democrats To ‘Be Willing To Get Shot’ Opposing Trump)
Lovejoy implored his Democrat colleagues to condemn the crime, but said that he “imagine[s] we will be waiting a long time.” Members of the Virginia Democratic Party ticket for the fall’s gubernatorial election, including Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, have yet to comment on the vandalism as of Monday afternoon.
