A North Carolina man’s lottery intuition just paid off big time!
On Friday, July 11, Ricky Nunnery Jr. from Sanford became the first winner of a $1 million top prize in the state’s new lottery game, officials said in a news release.
Nunnery said that his lottery story began after he had a dream “that I would hit big on the lottery.” Choosing to listen to that dream, Nunnery went out and bought the lucky $10 ticket at a local Wink Mart gas station.
“Something just told me to play,” he told lottery officials.
When he arrived at lottery headquarters last week to claim his prize, Nunnery said that he chose to receive the prize as a lump sum of $600,000. The other option? An annuity of $50,000 over 20 years.
After all the required state and federal taxes, he ended up going home with $430,503.
“I’m tickled to death with this,” Nunnery said, adding that he plans to use the money to invest and cover his bills.

Other North Carolina lottery players could soon find themselves in luck too — four $1 million top prizes still have not been claimed in the $1,000,000 Triple Play game, which debuted in June, according to lottery officials.
