A man is questioning whether he was in the wrong to back out of travel plans with a big group after his friends invited their significant others without asking him if it was okay.

In a post shared to Reddit’s r/AmIOverreacting forum, the man explained that he and a group of friends from work had been planning a trip for the last three months.

“Everyone was hyped, plans were solid, I even budgeted for it early so I wouldn’t feel the hit when it came around,” he shares. “Now it’s a week out and the whole vibe has changed.”

Two of the group members invited their girlfriends, even though the Reddit user notes the trip wasn’t supposed to be “a couples thing.” Another person backed out completely, and the Airbnb was swapped out for a smaller house — “that I didn’t even agree on.”

“I said I might just skip it and eat the cost because I’d rather not burn a whole weekend being the seventh wheel in a crowded house I didn’t sign up for,” he shares. “Now they’re all saying I’m being dramatic and ruining the vibe.”

He then turned to the Reddit community, asking if he was truly “overreacting” or if it was “fair to just peace out if the whole plan flipped?”

Commenters underneath the post were quick to side with the man, arguing that his friends were the ones who “ruined the vibe” by inviting more people.

“They are changing all the plans without your input,” one commenter wrote. “They aren’t considering you at all or your comfort. So are you going to have to sleep on the couch because of the house being smaller? If that is the case, then ask for the money back.”

“Who does that for a trip with co-workers anyway? It’s not like it’s a family gathering where you can just invite your girlfriend and it won’t change the whole dynamic,” another shared. “If they’re already giving you s— for this now, chances are the trip itself is going to be uncomfortable anyway. I could also see something happening with that many people crammed into a small Airbnb that would make things weird at work too.”

“Personally I don’t think it’s a great idea to do activities with coworkers outside of the workplace anyway, especially not something as intimate as sharing an Airbnb for the weekend,” the commenter added. “That’s a recipe for disaster.”
