This year marks the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary, and fans who live in San Francisco will have the opportunity to celebrate with thousands of other Deadheads when Dead & Company — the iconic band’s spinoff group — plays three lives shows at Golden Gate Park this summer.
San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie made the announcement this week in a video shared to X.
“We have some really big news,” Lurie said, on location in Golden Gate Park. “Dead & Co., three shows, August 1, 2 and 3, right here in the city that is the home of the Grateful Dead. What better way to celebrate. We’ll see you out here in August.”

While Dead & Company — who just completed a series of shows at the Sphere in Las Vegas — hasn’t officially confirmed the news, the video’s caption promised “more details from the band coming soon.”
Fans on social media had mixed reactions to the announcement, with many focusing on one of those as-yet-undisclosed details: the price of tickets. One person called out the stark difference between the Grateful Dead’s early shows in the California city and what Dead & Company typically charges for admission.
“Only difference being that, in ’67, Dead shows in GG Park were free; in ’25 a pair in the nosebleeds will be $450,” they wrote.
“Great. There goes another $10k out of my pocket,” lamented a second X user.
“Old enough to remember their last ‘farewell concert,'” joked somebody else.
Other loyal fans were thrilled, however.
“Nice! That’ll be an epic party!” someone gushed, with another commenter agreeing, “Now that is cool!”
“YES!!!!” declared yet another person.
