Cline and Davidson were first linked in September 2023; a split happened earlier in 2024 but wasn’t confirmed until that July
Madelyn Cline looked back on her relationship with Pete Davidson.
The 27-year-old Outer Banks actress was first linked to the Saturday Night Live alum in September 2023. They were confirmed to have separated by the following July. Since then, Cline hasn’t said much beyond confirming to Nylon that the split occurred earlier in the year than was initially reported.
However, she poked fun at the brief romance and her high-profile ex in a recent interview with Allure.
“The jokes, they write themselves. And I said it before, and I’ll say it again, that is my only comment,” Cline said about her time with Davidson in the July 10 cover story.
Later, adding, “He has a really cute dog and some really great girlfriends now.”

Davidson has been linked to several A-list stars over the years. He was famously engaged to Ariana Grande before they called things off in October 2018. Other exes include the likes of Kim Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski, Chase Sui Wonders, Kaia Gerber, Kate Beckinsale and Margaret Qualley.
He is currently dating actress Elsie Hewitt, with the couple making it Instagram official in March 2025. They made their red carpet debut in May, and Hewitt provided a rare glimpse into their relationship in July.
In October 2024, an exclusive source told PEOPLE that Davidson has stayed on friendly terms with “pretty much all his exes.”
“He’s a good guy, and they root for him,” they said, specifically mentioning that “nothing bad happened between him and Madelyn [Cline].”
“It just ran its course,” the insider explained about the mysterious split. Another ex mentioned was Kardashian, with the source saying that they “still talk occasionally.”

In February, the comedian made a rare comment about Grande, throwing his support behind her as she competed to earn the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards for her performance in Wicked.
“When we see each other, which is few and far between, because we’re not in the same circles, it’s all love,” he told Page Six. “I hope she wins the Oscar, I hope she takes the gold.”
He continued, adding, “I’ve had some pretty adult relationships with some pretty amazing women, and when it’s ended, it’s been cool.”
Davidson told the outlet that the public scrutiny of his love life was “pretty humiliating and upsetting,” explaining that other stars such as Paul Mescal, Timothée Chalamet and Barry Keoghan haven’t faced the same hyperfixation on their love lives.
“Everyone is dating everyone, and it’s Hollywood,” he said. “But because I’m ugly, they wrote about me. I was harassed for like, five years, and it made my life a living hell.”
The attention even took away from his professional accomplishments: “I was one of the youngest-ever cast members on SNL and all that got pushed to the side because of who I was dating,” he said.
Since dating Davidson, Cline’s love life has stayed out of the public eye, though she did shut down a rumor linking her to Charles Melton in March 2025.
She confirmed to Allure that she is currently single, with the outlet noting that “her demanding travel schedule has made it difficult to date.”
There’s more to it, though.
“I want to experience this life on my terms first, before I do all the relationship stuff,” she said. “When I go to work, I get pretty locked in, and I get really, really overwhelmed sometimes when the priorities start stacking up and I’m trying to figure out where to put my energy.”
Aside from Davidson, she was most famously linked to her Outer Banks costar Chase Stokes. The couple dated for a year before separating in November 2021.

While on the Therapuss podcast in March, she explained that she didn’t think about what it meant to share her love life with the public until the split.
“I didn’t understand. I was just so in love. And, you know, people loved it. I think they loved it because of us, but they also loved John B and Sarah, first and foremost,” she added, referring to their Outer Banks characters.
While she said that she managed to move on from the split, Cline did recognize that “there was a period of time there where I truly did not know which way was up, which way was down.”
She explained, saying, “Banks and that public relationship was kind of my identity.” The actress added, “And I was like, ‘Who the f— am I?’ I’m still figuring that out. But figuring that out and who you are in the public space just is truly such a mindf—.”
