Lupita Nyong’o made a triumphant return to steps of the 2025 Met Gala on Monday night.
The Academy Award-winning actress wore a mint green suit with a double-breasted blazer and flowing cape. She topped it off with a matching boater hat by Chanel.
The theme for the 2025 Met Gala is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This year’s co-chairs are Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, musician and Louis Vuitton men’s creative director Pharrell Williams, and Grammy-nominated rapper A$AP Rocky, along with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. NBA legend LeBron James is an honorary chair.
Nyong’o skipped last year’s event, but she’s been a fixture for years at the Costume Institute’s annual gala.
Fresh off her Oscar win, Nyong’o made her Met Gala debut in 2014 in a flapper-inspired, mesh green Prada dress, which for some observers felt inspired by Josephine Baker. Two years later, she opted for a heavily sequined Calvin Klein dress and a meaningful hairstyle. In 2017, Nyong’o looked lovely in an off-shoulder coral Prada gown with organza flowers.
In 2021, Nyong’o paid homage to American fashion with a dark-wash denim dress by Donatella Versace, a callback to Britney Spears at the 2001 American Music Awards.
But in 2019, Nyong’o absolutely stunned in one of the best Met Gala looks of all time: a vibrant and bedazzled frock by Atelier Versace, which was a sublime interpretation of the assignment for that year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
