Jennie Garth is remembering some of the sillier on-set antics with Luke Perry.
Speaking about her late castmate as she appeared alongside the rest of the Beverly Hills, 90210 gang at 90s Con in Hartford, Conn., in March, Garth recalled a time that the cast was filming out on jet skis when a little playing around led to a scary moment.
“One time I was doing a scene with Luke in his car and I don’t know, he was being sassy or being mean to me, like brotherly mean, and I was spraying Binaca in my mouth. And something just came over me, and I turned it around and sprayed it in his eye,” she recalls.
“And then all of a sudden, it was big to-do. I didn’t really realize it would hurt his eyes, I don’t know. I didn’t think that through … I wish I didn’t do that.”
Castmate Gabrielle Carteris, 64, pointed out, “Well he got you back. He ran you over with a jet ski,” then added, “Well not like on purpose.”

“We were in the ocean filming and then they took the jet skis. They said, ‘Get on these and go into the shore for lunch,’ right? So, we got on the back of the jet skis and that’s when we had the bodyguards. And the bodyguards were each driving a jet ski, but Luke didn’t want his bodyguard to drive. He wanted to drive it,” Garth, 53, began.
“There was a fisherman and then there was a line, and he went through it and yelled ‘Duck,’ meaning, ‘Don’t let the line catch you,’ and I was like ‘What?’ “

Her castmates joked she probably thought it was a real duck as she continued, “And I got tagged! It didn’t like decapitate me or anything, but it hit my life jacket and hit me off the thing. So then Luke came around and tried to save me, but he hit me in the head.”

During the panel, costars Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green, both 51, also noted that their characters, Donna Martin and David Silver, celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this year. Tori said, “It’s our silver anniversary! Get it? David and Donna Silver.”
They also joked that 2008’s revival series 90210 — on which viewers find out that their marriage has hit a rough patch — is not “canon.” Spelling said, “It bums me out that they’re saying David and Donna are getting a divorce.” She also regretted that the show never resolved the storyline in either direction.
At 90s Con in 2024, Garth also spoke to the revival, admitting she regretted appearing on the series.
“I wish I hadn’t done it. No offense to them,” she said. “The producer was a friend of a friend, and I remember he came over in my living room, sat me down, [billed it as] this chance of a lifetime. He asked me to do it and I didn’t know how to say no then. But the people were very nice and all the best to them.”
