There’s more Dutton family drama to come.

On Wednesday, May 7, CBS announced that Luke Grimes will return as Kayce Dutton, the youngest child of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, in a brand-new spinoff series.

The spinoff’s working title is Y: Marshals, and it’s slated to premiere midseason next year.

Exact plot details remain unknown, but the new drama series will presumably also see the return of Kayce’s wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and their son Tate.

News of the spinoff comes five months after Yellowstone came to an end in December 2024 after five seasons.

In the finale, Kayce saved the family’s ranch by selling the land to Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) at the price it was worth when the Duttons first took it from Native Americans a century before, $1.25 an acre.

In his agreement with Rainwater, though, Kayce requested that his family could remain on the East Camp, and the episode ended with him and his son buying cattle for the land.

Ahead of the series finale last year, Grimes, 41, told PEOPLE there are “always rumblings” of a potential spinoff or continuation of the story.

“I think when anything is this successful, there’s a pressure to keep it going because they know they have an audience and that’s what they’re looking for. But it all comes down to Taylor [Sheridan’s] vision,” he said.

“He has to see it to be able to write it, and I don’t think he’s going to write something that he doesn’t want to. Basically we’re just going to see if Taylor has an idea that he gets excited about, and that’s going to make all the difference here.”

Along with Y: Marshal, there are several other Yellowstone spinoffs currently in the works.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox are leading The Madison, a spinoff set in the present day that will follow a New York family who settle in the Madison River valley of central Montana and will be a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection.”

There have also been rumors of a potential spinoff focused on fan-favorite couple Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), but nothing has been confirmed.
