Lucy Dacus tries not to pay attention to the comments section.
In an interview with The Forty-Five published on Monday, April 28, the “Ankles” musician revealed that she tries to tune out the internet feedback about her relationship with Boygenius bandmate Julien Baker.
“I try not to look,” Dacus, 29, told the publication. “But friends have been sending me funny things.”
Ultimately, she said their relationship “is a happy thing,” and “Julien is very pro me letting people know” about it.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Dacus admitted her most recent album Forever Is a Feeling, which was released on March 28, “was a gift” to Baker, 29, “first.”
“I wrote that song genuinely, when it was like, ‘OK, feelings are on the table, and we ought not touch them, because our relationship is too important, and I support what you want for your life,” she said. “And how great that you’ve told me! Or like, ‘Wow, what a surprise that we’re saying this out loud. But let’s ultimately just say that we matter to each other and move on.’”
“That was real. That’s how I felt,” Dacus concluded.
The “Talk” performer confirmed her relationship with Baker to PEOPLE in March after months of speculation online. (The New Yorker was first to report the news.)
“We are together,” she told PEOPLE of their relationship, which she described as “really sweet.” “People are right.”
At the time, Dacus said it was “funny to just say it so plainly” because there was a lot of “tension of people guessing.”
“I don’t know, we just talked about it kind of recently, and we were like, ‘What is actually at risk for people knowing this?’ We wanted to be protective because it matters so much,” she said of her relationship with the “Sprained Ankle” musician.
Added Dacus: “I hope to God people knowing won’t make it a less true or pleasant experience. So that’s one of the many precious things I’m giving up with this record.”
She also noted that Julien was “ready to be telling people, too.”

“So, from us to you, we are in love,” said Dacus.
The pair initially met in 2016 and have been friends for “over nine years.”
According to Dacus, her relationship with Baker began “percolating” through their indie-rock supergroup Boygenius.
