Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams is bringing a honky-tonk to New York’s East Village with a new bar and venue at 169 Avenue A she’s calling, naturally, Lucinda’s.

True to a Nashville-style honky-tonk, the space will feature live country music on Friday nights, live-band karaoke on Saturdays, and weekly bluegrass picking nights and songwriter open mics.

Williams teamed up with Laura McCarthy, proprietor of former venues such as Brownies and Lakeside Lounge, among others, on the venture, which occupies the same space as Brownies before its closure over 20 years ago.

“We are really excited to have a down-home, honky-tonk country bar in the East Village,” McCarthy said in a statement. “There is some kind of magic for music in that location. I have felt it since we opened Brownies in the late ‘80s. It’s exciting to do this with Lucinda and the team.”

The space will have a private opening tonight featuring a performance from Williams and her band, along with performances from Laura Cantrell, DJ Moonshine and DJ Prison Rodeo. The show will be broadcast live on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Williams’ latest albums were “Stories from a Rock N Roll Heart” in 2023 and “Lucinda Williams Sings the Beatles from Abbey Road” from 2024. Her memoir, “Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You,” was also released in 2023. In 2011, she was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Songwriting by the Americana Music Association.
