Lorde stopped just short of freeing the nipple at Balenciaga’s latest fashion show in Paris. On Wednesday, the singer sat front row at creative director Demna’s final presentation for the brand, selecting a bedazzled chainmail dress that was completely see-through.
Layering the metallic piece over jeans and black pasties, the Virgin artist wore her mid-length brunette tresses in a middle part with waves. Her makeup, meanwhile, consisted of silver eyeshadow and muted terracotta blush.

Georgian designer Demna is next headed to Gucci, where he’ll stage his first show with the brand in the coming months.
In May, Lorde opened up about her gender identity in an interview with Rolling Stone. The Grammy winner revealed that her close friend, Chappell Roan, questioned if one of her new songs indicated she was nonbinary.

The lead track from Lorde’s new album Virgin includes the lyrics: “Some days I’m a woman / Some days I’m a man.”
“[Chappell Roan] was like, ‘So, are you nonbinary now?'” Lorde said in the cover story. “And I was like, ‘I’m a woman except for the days when I’m a man.'”
Lorde clarified that she views gender more ambiguously, adding, “I know that’s not a very satisfying answer, but there’s a part of me that is really resistant to boxing it up.”
Lorde referenced the very same lyrics on the Met Gala red carpet earlier that month. Speaking to Vogue host Emma Chamberlain, she explained that her custom Thom Browne look “was something of an easter egg.”
“More will be revealed,” she teased. “I love the open back. To me it really represents where I’m at gender-wise. I feel like a man and a woman.”
