Lizzo revealed that she had to wear closed-toed shoes for a year after losing her toenail
The pop star explained that her toenail issue made her adjust her footwear choice at the 2023 Met Gala

Lizzo’s latest confession proves that celebrities go through their own beauty ordeals, too — and they can be quite uncomfortable.
The “Truth Hurts” singer appeared on the Thursday, May 8, installment of comedian Ziwe’s YouTube interview series and got candid about losing a toenail, as well as the painful regrowth process that led to her wearing closed-toe shoes for an entire year.
“Should body positivity stop at feet? Have you seen your WikiFeet account?” Ziwe asked the pop star, referring to the website that catalogs famous feet from celebrities and rates them to create a composite score.
“I have precious little piggies,” Lizzo gushed. “I have a video right now that will blow your f—— socks off. When I took this video, I was going to use it for something great, and it’s just in my phone right now. This is the moment.”
The interview then cut to the aforementioned video of Lizzo’s feet, which were freshly manicured after a trip to the nail salon.

“I just left the toe salon,” the singer, 37, says in the video while admiring her moisturized feet and polished toes in the sun.
“So if your feet don’t look like this, please don’t speak on me. Please don’t speak on business you think you know, because you don’t know me, you don’t know my business, and your feet could never.”
Lizzo’s luck ended up backfiring shortly after giving her feet their much-deserved praise. “I knew that I had a celebrity foot rating and it was quite high and then my toenail fell off,” she told Ziwe.
Though losing the toenail was a struggle for Lizzo, she was fascinated by how it grew back. “I wasn’t able to wear open-toe shoes for a year and it was like a turtle shell,” she revealed. “There was like another toenail growing underneath. The human body is incredible. I had to grow that s— back.”
The musician even confirmed that her toenail issue impacted her 2023 Met Gala outfit. For the evening, the singer wore a custom Chanel black silk crêpe dress that contained a glass pearl harness.

She completed her outfit — which was inspired by a look from the brand’s 1991/92 ready-to-wear collection — with black calf-high booties that also had rows of pearl chains. The theme for the night was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” in honor of the German designer.
“Closed-toe shoes at the f—— Met Gala. It was disgusting,” Lizzo recalled, adding, “But now that my toenail is back, bitch…oh, we’re on and popping. My pretty little piggies!”
Lizzo’s latest Met Gala was problem-free. For the 2025 Met Gala, where the theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” she wore a fitted corset dress designed by Christian Siriano. The dress code for the night was “Tailored for You.”

While Lizzo ascended the carpet for the event without a hitch, her shoes for the evening were not visible due to the dress’s mermaid hem and crisp white flowing train.
