  • Lizzo recently revealed some of the tips that helped her lose weight in a TikTok Live video.

  • The 36-year-old singer said she gave up Starbucks after realizing how many calories were in her “two to three” large coffees she drank per day.

  • Overcoming anxiety also played a role in the star’s weight loss journey.

Last September, Lizzo caused quite a stir online while responding to Ozempic allegations after her weight loss transformation. Now, the “Truth Hurts” singer is revealing how she reached her weight loss goal (or “weight release” goal) and the hurdles she faced along the way.

In a TikTok Live video posted on Tuesday, April 22, Lizzo discussed the dietary changes she implemented to reach her goals, including avoiding “sugary stuff” in the morning and opting for “super savory” choices instead, People reported. However, the singer acknowledged that “everybody’s body is different” and told her viewers, “find out what works for you.” The only thing that “works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out,” she added. “That’s just how the human body works.”

The star shared an example of how she cut back on sugar and calories by removing certain sugary drinks from her diet. She said once she realized how many calories she was consuming by drinking “two to three” large Starbucks drinks a day, she knew she had to make the change. She estimated that she was drinking up to 1200 calories per day at that point in her life, and added that cutting back on the type of coffee helped her “regulate” her “nervous system.”

Lizzo said she had to start eating in a “calorie deficit” because she “was prone to binging.” A calorie deficit diet refers to consuming fewer calories than the body burns in a day (both in terms of the calories we burn naturally at rest and any physical activity we do), Dana Ellis Hunnes, Ph.D., MPH, R.D., adjunct assistant professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health previously told Prevention.

After the live stream, Lizzo posted another video to show fans an example of what she eats in a day. In the video, she showed a nutritious meal consisting of “jerk” chicken meatballs with a side of rice, peas, and cabbage drizzled with hot sauce.

Later in the TikTok Live, Lizzo opened up about how addressing her anxiety helped her along her weight loss journey. “I’ve been working to get my anxiety under control for years. And then I decided that I want to release [it] and I’m ready to stop waiting to be myself, like fully, and be happy,” she said. She added that meditation, taking time for herself, and limiting distractions were all helpful steps she took.

“I loved to distract myself with people. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking. I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that,” she added. “And I just focused on me.”

Lizzo has been open about her weight loss journey nearly from the start, regularly sharing body-positive reminders with her fans. We can’t wait to see what she posts next.
