Lizzo is clearing up any rumors about her weight loss.
The “Good as Hell” singer, 37, revealed on the Just Trish podcast on June 19 that she has tried Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs, which are medications originally intended to treat type 2 diabetes that have become popular among celebrities because of their appetite-regulating effects.
“I’ve tried everything,” Lizzo admitted. “It’s just the science, for me, calories in vs. calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food.”
“It makes you feel full. So, if you can just do that on your own and get mind-over-matter, it’s the same,” she continued, adding that she has achieved her recent weight loss by using the mind-over-matter method as opposed to the GLP-1 drugs.

When podcast host Trisha Paytas asked her how she kept consistent, the Grammy award winner — who has been on her weight loss journey since 2023 — revealed that the key was all in her diet.
“What did it for me was— actually it was not being vegan,” Lizzo shared. “Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. I was eating a lot of bread. I was eating a lot of rice, and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really I was consuming like 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day.”
“So for me, when I actually started eating whole foods and eating like beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of like fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up,” she explained.
In April, Lizzo opened up about some of her healthy habits that have allowed her to reduce her body mass index by 10.5 and drop 16% of her body fat. One of the things that Lizzo noted is that she now opts for “super savory” foods instead of “sugary stuff” in the morning.

“I do something sweet. It’s gotta be with some sort of like carb. I’ll have like almond butter and toast. So, everybody’s body is different. Find out what works for you,” she said, adding that what “works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out.”

The “Truth Hurts” singer also revealed that her weight loss journey became easier for her to manage due to a shift in mindset — as she was focusing more now on her health and wellness instead of other distractions.

“I loved to distract myself with people. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking. I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that,” she added. “And I just focused on me.”
With that, her mindset of her body has also shifted, and she admitted to the The New York Times in March 2024 that her idea of body positivity had “evolved into body neutrality.”
“I’m not going to lie and say I love my body every day,” she explained. “The bottom line is, the way you feel about your body changes every single day. There are some days I adore my body, and others when I don’t feel completely positive.”
