Liza Koshy has partnered with Supergoop! for its latest SPF campaign, taking on the role of “Chief Super Officer,” reminding people to put on sunscreen and feel super
In the latest video installment for the campaign, Koshy stars in her own nostalgic “stage production” and introduces the SuperShades — sunglasses that store Supergoop! Sunscreen for easy reapplication
“I want to make sure kids nowadays know to wear thick, goopy amounts of sunscreen, not just a little dab,” Koshy tells PEOPLE about the importance of sunscreen
Liza Koshy is feeling super and thinks you should, too.
The 29-year-old actress and media personality has been “hired” by Supergoop! as their new “Chief Super Officer,” spreading sunscreen and good vibes for its latest SPF campaign.
“It was one of those perfect candidate situations because I’ve been in love with Supergoop! for so long,” Koshy tells PEOPLE about her new role. “I actually stepped in and created the job, I came up with it myself. They didn’t have an employee of the month, which I thought was wild. So I created that and named myself employee of the month. So yeah, I’ve done a lot at Supergoop! already.”

In the latest installment of a video campaign for the brand, Koshy stars in her own nostalgic “stage production,” but says this is not her first time in front of an audience. “I played Max the dog in The Grinch,” she shares of her first childhood stage role. “Did I have a line? Oh no, it was just a bark. But I have range, and they saw that in me. They knew that they could play into my versatility. You’ve got to start somewhere. I’ve worked my way up since then.”
In her latest production, Koshy introduces her new invention, the SuperShades — sunglasses that store Supergoop! Sunscreen for easy reapplication on the go — and says that the trend seems to have caught on. “I was so proud to see my invention on Ellie Thumann’s face, who rocked them extremely well,” she says. “Brooklyn Beckham, too. They both rocked them at Coachella. I hope they felt super.”

As someone who did not grow up understanding the importance of sunscreen — “My mother didn’t help me as a child. I was just crisping in the air fryer we call Earth,” she jokes — Koshy is passionate about helping others protect their skin. “I used to use crazy stuff as a primer, things we used to find on Pinterest. It was stuff that was supposed to go on the other end of your body, and I was putting it on my face,” Koshy shares. “I want to make sure kids nowadays know to wear thick, goopy amounts of sunscreen, not just a little dab.”

With summer fast approaching, Koshy says she has exciting plans in between reapplying sunscreen. “I’m going back to L.A. to hang out with my friends, and one of my best friends has a birthday in Vegas. So, Vegas is coming up,” she tells PEOPLE. “This summer, I’m also going to be promoting my new movie, Summer of 69, with Chloe Fineman, Nicole Byer, Charlie Day and Jillian Bell’s directorial debut. And The Naked Gun comes out this summer too, so I can’t wait to rub Supergoop! on Liam Neeson’s face.”

She adds about working with Neeson — and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming holiday movie The Man with the Bag — “It’s a masterclass to be able to work with Arnold. The man has range — he probably started as a dog too,” she jokes. “Liam Neeson being literally the sweetest, most not intimidating human being I’ve ever interacted with is just ironic based on his characters. I’ve studied the greats, I’ve worked with the greats. I think I’m ready to be great. No, I’m ready to be super.”
As she continues her role as Chief Super Officer, Koshy hopes to remind people of the importance of self-love and how sunscreen plays a part in that. “Make it an act of self-love to put on sunscreen every single day,” she says. “It’s a way of just affirming for yourself that you’re going to go out into the world, protect yourself and put yourself first.”
