Live updates: Trump touts cryptocurrency law but doesn’t answer Epstein questions

President Trump signed the first major cryptocurrency bill into law on Friday afternoon, touting its landmark status.

The GENIUS Act, which establishes a regulatory framework for dollar-backed digital tokens called stablecoins, as “a giant step to cement the American dominance of global finance and crypto technology.”

But he ignored questions about the topic consuming Washington: Jeffrey Epstein.

At the direction of President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi was expected to ask a federal court Friday to unseal grand jury testimony in the case of disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trying to quiet the unrelenting calls for more transparency in the case, Trump asked for the release Thursday night, saying the controversy, a “SCAM perpetuated by Democrats, should end, right now!”

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported new details Thursday night about a 50th birthday letter Epstein received from Trump; the president denied writing the message and quickly threatened to sue the publication. On Friday, he said he looked “forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his ‘pile of garbage’ newspaper, the WSJ.”

In a Friday morning social media post, Trump asked why Democrats didn’t release the infamous Epstein files. “BECAUSE THEY HAD NOTHING!!!” he insisted.
