Lewis Hamilton’s wardrobe is finally where it belongs: on the red carpet.
The Formula One race car driver went straight from the Miami Grand Prix (which took place this weekend) to the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to co-chair the 2025 Met Gala.
Honoring the evening’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and the dress code “Tailored for You,” Hamilton wore an ivory suit over a silky white button-up blouse fastened at the neck with a bow. The jacket of the suit was boxy and cropped, and adorned with a very on-trend Art Deco-like brooch embellished with gold, diamond, rubies, and pearls.
The pants were perfectly tailored, and featured curtains of white pearls down the sides. Hamilton wore a smooth white beret to match his ensemble, and made sure to accessorize the hat with another brooch—this one a floral-inspired piece made of gold and diamonds.
He capped off his look with glossy black dress shoes and so many chunky gold rings with colorful stones and diamonds, plus large diamond stud earrings.
The British race car driver may spend most of his time racing with Ferrari, but when he steps out of his car, he is always dressed to the nines. At last year’s Met Gala, he wore an embellished black cape, flower-shaped diamond earrings, and a gold thorn necklace.
As for his street style, Hamilton has become known for his unique bomber jackets, funky graphic tees, and pristine suit looks. He also loves dripping in chunky diamond jewelry—and who wouldn’t? His fearless style has ushered in a new era of fashion within the race car world, and helped make the Grand Prix synonymous with luxury and star power.
This is Hamilton’s eight time attending the Met Gala—but his first as a co-chair. “Naturally, I hope this year’s Met Gala sparks conversation and reconfirms the connection between fashion and self-expression, and how deep it runs in Black culture,” he said of this year’s theme in an interview. “I hope it allows us to show that we have ownership of our identity and how we see ourselves and how we see one another, and how we use fashion to combat preconceived notions with humanity and dignity. If you think about where we are in the world—and particularly in the States, in terms of people pulling back on diversity—I think this Met Gala sends a really strong message that we must continue to celebrate and elevate Black history.”
