Key Takeaways
On April 27, Kerry Washington attended the Annual Atlanta Film Festival wearing a gorgeous color-blocked Christopher John Rodgers gown.
She paired the dress with a major hair change—a set of brand-new choppy bangs.
When I was in primary school, I’d spend my whole Monday bus ride in a state of great anticipation, hoping that someone in my class got glasses or a haircut and would be hard to recognize so I could stare at them when I was bored.
It’s an activity I now look forward to on a weekend full of film festival happenings or celebrity awards dinners. There’s nothing like a good transformation to start your week off on the right foot, and today it’s Kerry Washington that’s giving us the pleasure of a good once-over.
On Sunday, April 27, the 48-year-old attended the 2025 Annual Atlanta Film Festival showing off a hair change-up that would’ve blown my five-year-old mind.

With the rest of her dark hair pulled back in a half-up, half-down style, Washington’s choppy bangs were the center of attention. Though they were too long to qualify for the baby label, they had the same edgy energy as much shorter counterparts. Shorten them an inch or so, and Miley Cyrus would have some competition.

A version of the fringe first appeared earlier in the week, when Washington attended a different screening of her movie Shadow Force showing in Los Angeles. That time around, the rest of her hair was worn down and straight, allowing them to blend in for a less harsh (though certainly blunt) effect. A few days later, she chose some major waves for an Uber and Delta event; you could see the choppiness start to come through.

When you’re rocking dramatic bangs, there’s only so much intrigue that can come from the rest of your hairstyle. A half-up, half-down look was the perfect choice this time around, as it didn’t detract from Washington’s fringe but still added some elegance (and fun—she was wearing color-blocked Christopher John Rogers after all). In a photo shot from behind, you could see the full extent of the waves and exactly how her long locks were playfully gathered.
Now, who can commit to a makeover next weekend? If you don’t want to go for bangs, a bob will also satisfy me.
