Legendary rocker Alice Cooper noted that Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t in the best shape before he died at the age of 76.

Just four days before Osbourne died on Tuesday, July 22, Cooper, 77, spoke about his friend’s final performance with Black Sabbath called “Back to the Beginning.” The show saw Osbourne reunite with original band members Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward onstage for the first time since 2005. The concert was held at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, on July 5.

On July 18, Cooper reflected on Osbourne’s final show during an interview with The Times. “Ozzy deserved that farewell,” he said. “He survived rock’n’roll but not physically as well as he should have. I saw some of the show and he was not in great shape. People shouldn’t give their whole lives, their health, to rock’n’roll. Life is bigger than that.”

Osbourne’s family confirmed his death on Tuesday by issuing a joint statement. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love,” the Osbourne family said in the statement, which was shared in an X post. “We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

His cause of death has not yet offically been confirmed. However, Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019.

Following the news of his death, several celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the late musician. The official Black Sabbath Instagram account uploaded a photo of Osbourne onstage with the caption, “Ozzy Forever.”

Meanwhile, Elton John took to Instagram to write, “So sad to hear the news of @ozzyosbourne passing away. He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods – a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love.”
