Legendary Punk Band Cancels Shows Due to ‘an Unexpected and Catastrophic Event’ originally appeared on Parade.

The Damned, the legendary band that was the first British punk act to release a single and a full-length album, has had to cancel the remaining three shows on their current U.S. tour.

The band took to their official Facebook account on Tuesday, July 22 to share the news with fans.

“We are very sorry to have to cancel our Seattle, Portland and Vancouver shows this weekend, due to an unexpected and catastrophic event at a member of The Damned’s home. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Refunds will be available for our two headline shows at your point of purchase,” the post reads.

No word on what the “unexpected and catastrophic event” was, and which member of the band’s home was affected.

The tour dates canceled appear to be July 25 in Seattle, July 26 in Portland, and July 28 in Vancouver, but those dates have already been scrubbed from the band’s official website. The next date listed on the band’s site is Aug. 4 in Lokeren, Belgium.

Back in June, the band announced their 50th anniversary show, set for April 11, 2026, at Wembley Arena in London, in a post on Instagram. The band shared the promotional poster for the show along with the words, “Half a century on and who’d of thought The Damned would still be upright and breathing?

“We have shared some tragic losses along the way but like a finely tuned engine The Damned still has the power and finesse to excite, entertain and accelerate into our 50th year…

“To mark this milestone event we’ve booked Wembley Arena for the 11th of April 2026 and after a lot of careful deliberation have put a bill together for a night for you to remember and will be joined by The Courettes, Peter Hook and Marc Almond!

“We haven’t made up the set list as yet but with 50 years of catalogue to choose from only the best songs from our checkered history will be performed and with the passion and commitment all good music lovers deserve- you know we won’t disappoint…”

Brian James, the guitarist who founded the Damned, died on March 6 of this year. He was 70.
