Legendary ’70s Rockers Kick Off Their Final ‘Farewell’ Tour and Fans Are All Saying the Same Thing originally appeared on Parade.

When The Who kicked off their The Song Is Over tour in Italy last week, it was meant to be the first of the last shows of their career. But as fans on social media were quick to point out, this isn’t the only time the iconic rockers have attempted to say goodbye.

In a video shared to TikTok by Stereogum from The Who’s recent show in Piazolla Sul Brenta, Italy, frontman Roger Daltrey, 81, sang the band’s classic song “See Me, Feel Me” from their 1969 album Tommy. The singer delivered an especially emotional performance, singing into the mic while on his knees.

Commenters couldn’t help but recall the band’s first “farewell” tour (which took place in 1982).

“My dad saw them in 1982…on their farewell tour,” one person wrote, with a second noting, “thought their farewell tour was after It’s Hard in 1982.”

“How many farewell tours can these people do?” someone else wanted to know, adding, “They’re never going to stop.”

“Another farewell tour?” wondered yet another fan.

Of course, The Who went on to tour numerous times after their 1982 run of shows (which spawned the live album Who’s Last) — but The Song Is Over might very well be their final venture.

As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, guitarist Pete Townshend seemed optimistic in advance of the tour, saying, “I must say that although the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had. I keep coming back. Every time I do, I meet new fans and feel new energy.”

“Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans, and hopefully to new ones who might jump in to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years,” he added. “This tour will be about fond memories, love and laughter.”
