Lauryn Hill stepped out at the Met Gala in spring’s trendiest color.
The rapper and singer arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for her first Met Gala on Monday, May 5. As a nod to the 2025 theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the 49-year-old wore butter yellow suit with larger than life, ornate details that popped against the red carpet.
Hill’s rare red carpet appearance saw her attend in a two-piece suit in the trendy shade. The ensemble consisted of a double-breasted suit jacket and wide leg pants. The jacket featured a sculptural cape that curved like a crown around her sky high afro before wrapping around her left shoulder and turning into a floor-grazing cape with a train.

The musician completed the look with a white button down top and burgundy tie that was accessorized with an amber pendant necklace. Hill piled on the accessories, and walked the red carpet with large burgundy sunglasses, gold bauble earrings, a blue Hermés Birkin bag and an umbrella that perfectly matched the color of her suit.
The “Ready or Not” singer went equally maximalist with her beauty, matching her eyeshadow to her bright blue bag and wearing deep purple lipstick on her lips.
Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour all co-chaired the the event. LeBron James was honorary chair but could not attend. The night fundraised for the Costume Institute and highlighted the museum’s new spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.
Simone Biles, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher and more stars were on the host committee.

Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code for this year was “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.

Although this is Hill’s first time at fashion’s biggest night, she is no stranger to going glam. In March, Hill dressed boldly during a performance at the Jazz in the Gardens Festival in Miami Gardens, Fla.
The Grammy winner wore a black leather jacket with dramatically structured shoulders over a simple black top. Finishing off the look was a high-waisted, full skirt — cinched with a gold belt — with a black and white floral pattern. To complement the outfit, she tucked vibrant purple and yellow flowers behind her left ear.
Hill’s special guest for the performance also made a fashion statement. Doechii joined the music legend for a special performance of Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo Wop (That Thing).” She walked out on stage in a Canadian tuxedo, newsboy cap and a string bikini top.
