Last-Surviving Member of the Monkees Shares Exciting News: ‘How Cool’ originally appeared on Parade.
Almost as soon as the pop group The Monkees formed in 1960, they became music icons. They started out as a fictional TV band on their eponymous show before members Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, and Michael Nesmith continued making music together even after the show was canceled — of course, until they broke up in the ’70s.
Nearly 50 years after the first episode of The Monkees premiered on TV, sadly, there’s only one surviving member of the group remaining: Dolenz, who turned 80 earlier this year.
If you’ve been hoping to see one of the Monkees live and in concert, your chance is finally here, as Dolenz announced in an Instagram post on July 24, and fans are already so excited.

Alongside footage of Dolenz on stage, the post revealed that he will be performing at the 175th Allen County Fair in Lima, Ohio on August 17 with music groups The Cyrkle and Direct Energy.
The comments quickly became flooded with excitement from fans, including one excited mom who can’t wait to take her 10-year-old daughter to the concert since she’s also a fan. How cool!
If you can’t make it to Ohio on short notice, don’t worry — there are more chances to see Dolenz live coming up. You can see the full list of Dolenz’s 2025 tour dates on his official website, and it looks like he’ll spend late summer and fall on the road all over the U.S., including a stop in Hawaii.
