Larry Birkhead just debuted a bold hair transformation at the 2025 Kentucky Derby—and it came at the blunt request of his daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead, whom he shares with the late Anna Nicole Smith.
On Saturday, May 3, Larry, 52, and Dannielynn, 18, stepped out for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

The doting dad took to Instagram to share photos of their stunning looks with followers, revealing his fresh haircut in the process.
“Continuing the @kentuckyderby weekend tradition going strong,” Larry captioned the update. “We are recovering from a rockin’ good time at last nights Barnstable-Brown Gala. Now, off to the races with Dannielynn!”
In the photos, Dannielynn wore a mint green off-the-shoulder dress while Larry opted for a tan suit. He noted that the teen’s jewelry was from her mom’s archive, also explaining the reason for his much shorter hairdo.
“She made me cut my hair with @hairbyryanaustin,” he wrote of Dannielynn. “Because before that she said I looked like a low-rent Keith Urban! Ouch 😣.”

On Friday, May 2, Larry and Danielynn attended the 2025 Barnstable Brown Gala, during which the 18-year-old donned Smith’s iconic black, backless dress that she wore at the same event 21 years prior.
Smith died in 2007 from an accidental overdose when Dannielynn was just 5 months old. Although Larry raised their daughter mostly out of the spotlight, the Kentucky Derby is a major tradition each year for the father-daughter duo.
