Land O’Lakes is setting the record straight on one of its most iconic product offerings.
Earlier this week, one of its biggest fans took to TikTok with a pressing question after comparing two slices of what appeared to be the same Land O’Lakes White American Cheese that was purchased from the deli. While holding up the two slices, the original poster (OP) compared the piece that was purchased in a pre-packaged fresh-sliced bag from the fridge at the deli to one that was sliced-to-order, noting that the cheese from the fridge had a shinier, smoother, and overall different texture.
OP added that this noticeable difference was something that they picked up on, regardless of which store they purchased the deli cheese at. Tagging the brand, OP made one last plea to figure it out, asking in the caption: “SOS…Why does the pre-sliced cheese from the deli have a different texture from the cheese I fresh order from the deli?! It’s like this no matter which store I get it at. I can’t figure it out! TikTok do your thing!”

Surely TikTok did its thing, and after racking up over 230,000 views, 8,000 likes and thousands of people also wondering what was up in the comments, Land O’Lakes responded to the video, clarifying all of the confusion.
“Great question!” the official account for the cult-favorite farmer-owned dairy brand replied, explaining Land O’Lakes makes “two types of Deli American,” one that’s sliced to order at the deli counter and comes in five-pound loaves, and another that’s a pre-sliced loaf that some delis also opt to set out in the convenient grab-and-go counters.
According to the brand, the two products “are a little different from one another in the way they are made,” which is why this TikToker (and countless others) can tell a difference between the two.
That said, Land O’Lakes suggested there is a way around it, recommending that fans confirm with the deli operator that the cheese they’ve ordered was sliced from the five-pound loaf.
