Lana Del Rey Nods to Husband Jeremy Dufrene with Alligator Hair Clips at 2025 Met Gala

Lana Del Rey didn’t attend the 2025 Met Gala with husband Jeremy Dufrene, but she did find a sweet way to bring him along for the ride.

On Monday, May 5, the singer, 39, arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art not with Dufrene, but rather Valentino creative director Alessandro Michele. She did, however, nod to the alligator tour guide — whom she married last September in Louisiana — with her hair accessories: a pair of alligator hair clips.

The musician adorned her chic, curled updo with the clips, which resembled realistic, miniature versions of the animals.

The hair accessories rounded out her ensemble, which included a black and brown Valentino ballgown. The stunning, long-sleeve gown featured a dramatic drop waist, silky brown skirt and a show-stopping bow and feather detail whose plumage jetted out behind her on the red carpet

In October 2024, Vogue shared details on the 2025 Met Gala, announcing that Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for the event, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair.

The gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the first Monday in May, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.

Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. This year’s event also has a star-studded host committee that includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher and Angel Reese.

This year’s Met Gela was far from Del Rey’s first rodeo. The singer previously made headlines at last year’s Met Gala, where she posed for photos with Kim Kardashian.

For the 2024 event, she went for a fairy goddess vibe as she donned a custom look by Alexander McQueen’s Seán McGirr. Her ensemble included a corseted dress in silk and tulle covered in hand-embroidered hammered bronze-bullion hawthorn branches.

Del Rey teamed the look with a dramatic makeup look that included brown lipstick outlined with a darker shader and a brown smoky eye. She wore her honey brown hair down in loose waves.

Meanwhile, the reality star attended the event in a sheer Margiela by John Galliano dress with a lace train with floral accents. She also wore a silver corset and a cozy, gray cashmere sweater.

The two spoke with Vogue about their respective ensembles, during which Del Rey said that they had “sister corset shapes going on.”

Del Rey made her Met Gala debut in 2012 in a strapless silver dress with a floor-length black cape. She attended again in 2018 alongside Jared Leto, wearing head-to-toe Gucci.

There, her bold look featured a floor-length white gown with gold and sheer details. The top of the dress included a complex gold piece with several swords. She accessorized with a blue feather headpiece over her dark brown waves.

As for Del Rey’s more recent looks, the “Video Games” singer showed off a pair of custom jeans that included another special nod to her husband. In February, the star shared a photo on Instagram of her wearing mid-wash jeans with husband’s last name embroidered in red on one of the back pockets.
