NEED TO KNOW

  • Lainey Wilson joined Mumford & Sons onstage in New Orleans to perform “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain

  • The British folk group is in the middle of their Railroad Revival Tour in support of their Rushmere album

  • Up next for them are cities such as Philadelphia, Buffalo, Nashville, Austin and Chicago

Lainey Wilson has an idea for a Mumford & Sons supergroup.

During the band’s Railroad Revival Tour stop in New Orleans at Woldenberg Park on Sunday, Aug. 3, the country star appeared onstage to sing a folk-inspired cover of “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain.

Wilson, 33, belted out the 1997 hit song while Marcus Mumford kicked things off with the iconic line “let’s go, girls” and danced onstage in a TikTok shared by a fan. Mumford, 38, played the tambourine and joined in for the song’s high-energy ending.

Fans were loving the different take on the pop song. “Just what I needed on a gloomy Monday morning!” one person wrote in the TikTok’s comments section.

“This was not on my bingo card but I’m here for it 🥰,” another said of the unexpected duet. “Now this looks fun, every artist on stage just having fun the whole night,” a third chimed in.

“Can it be Mumford & Sons + one new sister now?” Wilson captioned her Instagram post about their collaboration. “Made music and friends for a lifetime with all of these folks in New Orleans yesterday.”

The “Somewhere Over Laredo” singer also included behind-the-scenes pictures from rehearsals with the band, scribbling down the setlist and a picture with fellow singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers.

Mumford & Sons shared a clip of them singing Wilson’s “4x4xU” on TikTok.

Mumford & Sons kicked off their Railroad Revival Tour on May 25 in Liverpool before heading to North America in support of their album Rushmere.

The band, made up of Mumford, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane said that the album marked “the beginning for Mumford & Sons’ next phase,” which “follows an intense period of creativity for the trio.”

“During a particularly prolific run of recent songwriting inspiration, it’s led them back to the magic of where it all started for them in a leafy suburb of London,” a press release stated in March.

Up next on their tour are cities such as Philadelphia, Tulsa, Nashville and Austin in October before they head to Europe in November for a string of international shows through December.

Wilson, meanwhile, was honored with the Lainey Wilson: Tough as Nails exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in July.

“Even though I have been working my entire life for this, I still feel like I somehow got started yesterday,” she told PEOPLE about the exhibit. “So for me, I was a little bit like … An exhibit? Oh, shoot. Like, is there enough story to tell?”

Wilson also said that she was trying to slow things down amid her Whirlwind Tour and after getting engaged to Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges in February.

“I’ve been able to spend a little bit more time at home this year,” she said at the time, “and so I really feel centered and grounded and able to come here during that season of my life and really get to soak this in and see where it started.”

“Coming here today and getting to see it from start to finish, it puts a lot of things in perspective for me.”
