The VMAs will air on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and stream live on Paramount + on September 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
There are two new categories this year: Best Country Artist and Best Pop Artist.
Fan voting is now open at vote.mtv.com and will remain active until September 5 at 6 p.m. ET.
CBS and MTV have officially unveiled the full list of nominees for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards today, and once again, Lady Gaga sits at the top. Her 2025 album Mayhem earned twelve nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Album. Gaga is poised to expand her impressive legacy at the VMAs, where she currently holds 18 wins. This marks the third time she has led nominations, following 2010 and 2020.
Bruno Mars follows closely behind Gaga with eleven nominations, and Kendrick Lamar in third place with ten. Rising global stars ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter are tied with eight each, while Ariana Grande and The Weeknd received seven nominations apiece. Billie Eilish earned six, and Charli XCX followed with five. Other major artists receiving multiple nominations include Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus, and Tate McRae, each with four. Also, for the first time, the VMAs will also include two new genre-specific categories: Best Country Artist and Best Pop Artist. All 19 categories remain gender-neutral.
All eyes will be on the biggest category of the night as well with Artist of the Year. The race for the most-ever VMAs wins continues between Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, both of whom are again nominated in the category. Both artists currently sit among the most decorated in VMA history and could add to their totals this September.
Ahead, read on for everything to know about this year’s VMAs.
When and where will the 2025 VMAs air?
The VMAs will return live from UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Sunday, September 7 at 8PM ET/5PM PT. The show will air coast-to-coast on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and stream live on Paramount+ in the U.S.
How can fans vote?
Fan voting is now open at vote.mtv.com and will remain active until Thursday, September 5 at 6PM ET. The Best New Artist category will stay open through the live show. Song of the Year nominees will be narrowed down to six on August 18 at 12PM ET, with voting for that category continuing alongside the others. Fans can also cast additional votes for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best New Artist by commenting under the pinned posts on the @VMAs Instagram using artist-specific hashtags through August 8.
This year’s “Power Hour,” presented by BACARDÍ Rum, gives fans double votes across all categories daily from 1–2PM ET between August 7 and September 4.
Additional details about the 2025 VMAs, including performer announcements, honorees, social category nominees, and more surprises, are expected to roll out in the coming weeks. With 66 million interactions, last year’s broadcast broke the record for most social interactions in VMA history. With this year’s lineup and fresh talent, MTV looks to raise the bar yet again.
