Was the theme of Taylor Swift’s new album inspired by Kylie Minogue?
After Swift announced her upcoming 12th original studio album The Life of a Showgirl earlier this week, some fans began comparing the project’s imagery to Minogue’s 2005 Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour — as both find the artists wearing flashy outfits complete with jewels and feather headpieces. Now, the Australian pop star is responding to the comparisons.
Alongside several photos of herself sporting burlesque-inspired showgirl attire, Minogue wrote on Instagram, “When all your friends start sending you your Showgirl mems!!! 😳🥺🙃 Awww.”

The “Padam Padam” singer continued, “Showgirl life is ‘a thing’, multi dimensional and so much more than feathers and dazzle. 💖, respect and admiration to all my fellow hard working Showgirls 😘.”
Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour went down from March to May 2005, when the run of shows was canceled early due to Minogue’s breast cancer diagnosis. The following year, she resumed a reworked version of the string of concerts, billed as Showgirl: Homecoming Tour.
In an appearance on Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast earlier this week, Swift announced her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl. The main cover artwork finds the “Cruel Summer” singer wearing a revealing rhinestone top as she lays in water.
Much of the album’s imagery centers on the color orange, and she explained the significance on New Heights. “It feels like energetically how my life has felt — and this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during [The Eras Tour], which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” she said.
Swift then shared, “One of the things about this record is, like, it’s a record I made with my mentor Max Martin and Shellback. The three of us have made some of my favorite songs that I have ever done before.”

“They were my main collaborators on my Red album,” she pointed out. “We did ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together,’ ‘I Knew You Were Trouble,’ ’22,’ ‘Shake It Off,’ ‘Blank Space,’ ‘Style,’ ‘Wildest Dreams’… ‘Ready for It,’ ‘Delicate’.”
The 14-time Grammy winner compared the collaboration process to “catching lightening in a bottle” when raving about her work with Martin and Shellback, noting they hadn’t worked together in around seven or eight years before The Life of a Showgirl. “They’re just geniuses,” she emphasized.
