NEED TO KNOW

  • Kristin Davis is recalling how one actress on the set of Melrose Place didn’t speak to her on set

  • In a new podcast, Davis noted how “competitive” the show felt

  • While she did have friends on set, Davis said, “There was one, you know, she wouldn’t speak to me. Like, she wouldn’t speak to me”

While Kristin Davis said she “felt like she won the lottery” after getting cast in her iconic role as Brooke Armstrong on Melrose Place, not everyone was so pleased.

On the latest episode of the podcast, Hey Dude… The ’90s Called with Christine Taylor and David Lascher, Davis, 60, says one actress on set was not very kind to her.

“There were just so many so many people [on set],” the Sex and the City actress said. “And I felt and I I have obviously seen all these people since then, and and so many of them are so lovely. But at the time … it was competitive.”

Davis continued: “I had my friends within like, Marcia Cross and I were were close, which was wonderful. But there was one, you know, she wouldn’t speak to me. Like, she wouldn’t speak to me. I never had scenes with her, so it wasn’t an issue. But I say, like, ‘Good morning,’ [and nothing.]”

“But I feel like it was a period of time. And then I guarantee you now, 30 years out of it, everyone looks back and it’s like, ‘Oh my god. What an idiot I was,’ ” Davis said, adding that she’s “seen this person” since and, “She’s very nice to me now.”

Davis added: “And sometimes I’m like, ‘Does she remember that she was being not that nice to me?’ “

Despite getting the cold shoulder from someone on set, Davis said she was elated to be part of the show — even though her stint lasted just one season on the nighttime soap, which ran from 1992 to 1999.

“Melrose was intimidating in, you know, so many ways, obviously,” Davis said. “I mean, I grew up … watching all the Dallas and Dynasty and blah blah blah. So it it meant a lot to me to be on there. Obviously, it was just a job also. Like, a certain point, you’re like, ‘I have won the lottery. Like, I have a job. I cannot believe it.’ “

She continued: “You know, it’s amazing, right, from a young actor perspective. And, I mean, as far as I know, I was gonna stay there. Like, I didn’t know that I was only gonna be one season, which I believe was 32 episodes, which is insane to think about now.”

In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, Davis explained that she went head-to-head with Hilary Swank for the role of Brooke in Melrose Place.

“It was Hilary Swank, myself and a girl named Meredith,” Davis says of the final auditions for Aaron Spelling’s series. “It was us three who tested for Brooke, and I think they must have read like 500 girls.”

Davis recalled feeling self conscious about her “very, very long hair” and debated cutting it as none of the women on the show had long locks. Eventually, she talked herself out of changing her appearance.

“I remember going in, and it was just the three of us, and everyone was very nice,” she said. “It wasn’t one of those like scary room, and then you go in one at a time. And I remember Hilary came out, and she seemed so young, and she had kind of shorter hair and kind of sporty, and I was like, ‘Uh-oh.’ And then Meredith had longer hair also. I was like, ‘Oh, good.’ “

Despite that she beat Swank for the role, Davis noted that the other actress wound up having a successful career all her own.

“Obviously she goes on to win two Oscars,” Davis laughed. “She did fine. She did fine.”
