Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West is embodying the spirit of fashion icon Joan Rivers.
While speaking with Vogue’s correspondent Emma Chamberlain on the blue carpet at the 2025 Met Gala, the Kardashians star, 44, detailed how she spends the few hours preparing before fashion’s biggest night every year. Kardashian shared that she always brings her oldest, daughter North, 11, with her to watch her get ready for the big event.
“Every time I come to the Met I love bringing my oldest daughter with me, just to see me get ready and all her aunties are in the hotel, and we’re all getting ready together, so it’s just a fun few days,” she told Chamberlain, who then asked Kardashian what North has taught her about fashion.

“She’s a big critiquer, but it’s pretty good, you know, her critiquing,” she said. “But you know just be yourself, right? She’s … also, I think, in a really positive place, like vibe, right now, where it’s just like, ‘Hey, even if that’s not my style, I’m not going to critique that because just be you and if you like that then that’s what you should be into.'”
“So, I love that energy, and so she was such a positive force tonight, like it was great,” concluded the mom of four.
Last October, Vogue announced that this year’s Met Gala would be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James as honorary chair. With the spotlight on its spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the star-studded event brought Black dandyism to the forefront.
This year for the Met Gala, the SKIMS founder and reality star — who has worn several iconic (and controversial) looks over the years, including wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress and a full-body black Balenciaga dress — turned heads in another eye-catching look.
Kardashian wore a crocodile leather, off-the-shoulder two-piece set by Chrome Hearts with an open back and long train. She accessorized the look with strings of pearls hanging by her waistband, a multi-strand diamond necklace and a large leather hat.

In March 2022, Kardashian opened up about North’s fashion critiques at Vogue‘s Forces of Fashion conference, sharing that the then-8-year-old wasn’t always impressed with what her mom is wearing — especially if she doesn’t incorporate enough color.
“North is very opinionated when it comes to what I’m wearing,” Kardashian said at the time. “She’ll always complain when I’m wearing too much black.”
“I showed up at her school on Valentine’s Day wearing head-to-toe pink, and she got so excited she ran over and hugged me,” she continued. “[Of course] she opened my coat, saw the black lining, and says, ‘Mom, you’re still wearing black.’ “
